Less than a week after the release from Google to build an experimental gigabit FTTH network, the FCC chairman Julius Genachowski revealed some of the highlights in the National Broadband Plan to be delivered to the Congress next month:
- Stressed on the fact that broadband is important to create jobs and stimulate economic growth
- U.S. is falling behind in broadband and is now ranked #16 in the world
- A “100 Squared” initiative — 100 million households at 100 megabits per second by 2020
He also pointed at the need for going beyond 100 megabit per second to be competitive in an international perspective and referred to the Google gigabit per second experimental FTTH network as a good example for other companies to follow.
